Legendary hardcore videographer Sunny Singh, founder of Hate5Six, and video archivist for the punk and hardcore scene, has announced he will be pursuing Hate5Six full time. Since 2008, Singh has filmed shows for Hate5Six on a part-time basis while working as a software developer.
After being laid off, Singh announced his decision to pursue Hate5Six as his main endeavor, and is now seeking supporters through Patreon. Among other rewards, patrons will receive access to exclusive video editing and sharing apps. Watch the official announcement video below.
Official statement:
Major life change announcement. For the last 10 years, I've operated hate5six purely as a hobby outside of my 9-5 job working in tech. Rather than continuing to sell myself to companies in order to pursue my passion, I'm cutting to the chase and attempting to take hate5six to the next level by going full time with it.
Patreon is a platform that allows people to financially support creatives who produce content they enjoy. Just to avoid any confusion: hate5six videos will ALWAYS be freely available and never paywalled. Subscribers who support hate5six via Patreon will have a variety of benefits: access to new hate5six web apps I've developed, the ability to have a say in what and how content gets produced, when that content is released, and early access to some content, among other things.
If this experiment works, I'll be able to take what I've somehow done in my "free time" and take it into hyperdrive.
hate5six's reach has grown exponentially and everywhere I go, both digitally and in public (even at a recent tech interview), I hear from people who tell me my work with hate5six has impacted their lives. I really only need a fraction of my viewers who are willing to make small recurring donations in order for this to be sustainable.
Additionally, I am establishing something called The 8.56% Pledge. Every month, 8.56% of my income will be donated to a charity selected by viewers. hate5six has been a vehicle for social change since day one, and this pledge is a step towards that commitment.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me these last 10 years, or who simply watched and enjoyed any of the 2600+ videos I've produced. Live music has the ability to unite people in unique ways and it's humbling to see that together we've created a community that values this type of documentation.
