AEW wrestler and God's Hate frontman Brody King (real name Nathan Blauvelt) has raised $27,758 for Local Hearts Foundation through the sale of 'Abolish ICE' t-shirts. The shirts were designed by Travis Thornton and features a design of King wearing an "Abolish ICE" t-shirt. The design is taken from King's appearance at AEW Grand Slam Mexico on June 18th, where he entered the ring wearing a balaclava and the aforementioned "Abolish ICE" t-shirt. Printing has been handled by Edgemen Printing out of Michigan.
Local Hearts Foundation is a charity that distributes food to people in need throughout the Long Beach and Los Angeles area. It was founded in 2012 and is based out of Dover, CA. As Immigration, Customs, and Enforcement (ICE) raids have ramped up in the Los Angeles area, Local Hearts Foundation has been providing funds to working people in the Latino communities. The funds provide laborers and street vendors with the means to feed themselves while sheltering at home, as well as supporting the children of people disappeared in ICE raids.
From Brody King:
Thank you to everyone that bought a charity shirt. We were able to raise over $27k to help families affected by ICE raids. Thank you to [Edgemen] for printing and shipping and [Travis Thornton] for the design.
While being unlawfully present or having an undocumented status in the United States is generally a civil offense, Los Angeles has recently become the focal point for raids by masked agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The agents raid workplaces, homes, or community areas, often as the result of anonymous tips, to apprehend, transport, detain, and deport individuals suspected of having an undocumented status. To date, the raids have also resulted in the collateral detention of US citizens, foreign-born spouses with valid permanent residency (green cards), foreign students with valid student visas, and tourists. Once captured by ICE, all detainees are transported to detention centers where the validity of their citizenship, permanent residency, or visa can be determined. Following detention, the administrative process to be granted release can take weeks, and involve relocation to detention centers in other states.
